Palestinian-American Adolescent Freed After 270 Days in Israeli Custody

An American-Palestinian youth having endured a nine-month period in imprisonment by Israel without being charged was released.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim was fifteen years old during his detention in February throughout the West Bank territory, where he was visiting from his Florida home accused of stone-throwing at Jewish settlers, allegations he repeatedly contested.

United States authorities applauded the teenager's freedom.

Now sixteen years old, was taken to hospital upon gaining freedom, according to close relatives.

Family described him as visibly pale and thin, and experiencing medical problems contracted in captivity.

Via family representatives, Mohammed's uncle expressed the family's "overwhelming sense of relief".

Family member Zeyad Kadur said the family had been "enduring a dreadful, continuous nightmare" during the entire detention period.

"Right now, our priority is providing Mohammed with urgent medical care he requires after being subjected to Israel's abuse and inhumane conditions over several months."

The state department stated they would maintain to provide consular support to Mohammed's family.

{"The Trump Administration gives utmost importance to the protection and welfare of US citizens"," the department emphasized.

A group of American legislators endorsed a document to the state department and the White House, demanding more be done for his freedom.

The father, a father-of-four who runs an ice cream business in Florida, had earlier stated his son only confessed to throwing stones after being assaulted by soldiers.

He had not seen or communicated with his son since February, receiving updates exclusively about his son's condition via legal paperwork.

He stayed without charge within Ofer penitentiary throughout the occupied territory.

It is also home to adult prisoners, including individuals found guilty of serious terrorism offences and murder.

An estimated several hundred young Palestinian detainees currently imprisoned in Israel, based on prison authority data.

Several lack formal charges along with monitoring agencies, as well as the United Nations, say some have suffered mistreatment and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, Mr Kadur said they would maintain their efforts demanding accountability for their family member their cousin Sayfollah.
